‘Tis the Utah Film Season

‘Tis that time of year again! Each year, the filmed-in-Utah holiday movie list continues to grow and some familiar faces are making appearances this time around. Check out our 2021 list of upcoming premieres and the movies of Christmases past you can watch to keep you in the spirit all season long. 

A Picture Perfect Holiday
Now available on Lifetime

A Picture Perfect Holiday stars Tatyana Ali, Henderson Wade, and Dina Meyer. The movie follows Gaby, a fashion photographer, who is encouraged by her editor to attend a Christmas Photography Retreat in the picturesque town of Pine Falls. She arrives to find her rental has been double booked, and when she meets wildlife photographer, Sean, she discovers more than she came looking for. Filming took place around the Salt Lake valley, notably utilizing Gardner Village in West Jordan. 

Candy Coated Christmas
Premieres on Friday, November 19, 2021 on Discovery+

Food Network’s debut into holiday rom coms wouldn’t be complete without a Ree Drummond appearance and a new recipe to go along with it! Candy Coated Christmas stars Molly McCook, Aaron O’Connell and Lee Garlington. The story of a woman returning home to Peppermint Hollow, where she befriends the local bakery owner, Bee, who is played by Drummond. The movie filmed in locations around northern Utah including Midway, Heber, Pleasant Grove, and Bountiful.

Mistletoe Mixup
Premieres on December 1, 2021 on Amazon Prime

Mistletoe Mixup was written by two-time Olympic alpine skier and Park City resident, Kaylin Richardson, and stars Joey Lawrence, Matthew Lawrence and was directed by Andrew Lawrence. The story is about a workaholic woman who makes a Christmas wish that goes awry when she meets two men, but you’ll have to watch the film to catch the twist!

Christmas with The Chosen: The Messengers
Premieres on day, December 1, 2021 in select theatres

Christmas with The Chosen: The Messengers is a special episode that was filmed in Goshen, Utah. It will have a 10-day run in theatres before it becomes available for free on The Chosen app. Follow this link to watch the trailer.

Sister Swap: A Hometown Holiday & Sister Swap: Christmas in the City
Premieres on December 5, 2021 & December 12, 2021 on Hallmark Channel

Hallmark Channel is stepping into new territory with interconnected movies that will premiere one week after the other. Sister Swap: A Hometown Holiday and Sister Swap: Christmas in the City both star IRL sisters Ashley Williams and Kimberly Williams-Paisley. The films follow Jennifer and Meg Swift, two sisters who decide to swap cities in the days leading up to Christmas. As they pursue new projects, they end up finding exactly what they’ve been looking for. The films were shot at the same time in areas around Salt Lake City like the 9th & 9th neighborhood and Ogden’s Union Station.

A Fiancé for Christmas
Premieres on December 8, 2021 on Lifetime

Perpetually single Sawyer decides to make a fake wedding registry to burn off some Christmas loneliness, but once her friends stumble onto it they think she’s become secretly engaged. Instead of fessing up to the truth, she vows to find a fiancé for the holidays. The film stars Amanda Payton, Adam Gregory, and Marie Osmond, and was filmed in Salt Lake, Utah, and Wasatch Counties.

 

The Housewives of the North Pole
Premieres on Thursday, December 9, 2021 on Peacock

The Christmas Queens of North Pole, Vermont arrive this holiday season! The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum, Kyle Richards, and Breaking Bad actress, Betsy Brandt, star as the unstoppable duo who hold the neighborhood title for Best Holiday House Decorations – nine years and counting. The Housewives of the North Pole was filmed in locations around Salt Lake City and Ogden, Utah.

Hot Chocolate Holiday
Premieres on December 24, 2021 on Lifetime

Colette runs a coffee shop that is known for her secret hot chocolate recipe. When Marcus, a new dessert shop owner, starts to draw in Colette’s customers and she is determined to expose him. The movie stars Aubrey Reynolds and Jonny Swenson and was filmed in Utah and Salt Lake Counties.
