We’re excited to embrace Disney with open arms this fall when they come to town for their new Disney Channel series Andi Mack. It’s been three years since Utah has experienced a Disney production with Cloud 9, but the relationship goes way back. The Walt Disney Company has spent an estimated $129 million over the last two decades in Utah on a total of 32 projects. Projects we all know and love, including Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, The Lone Ranger and the High School Musical films. If history goes to show, Andi Mack should make it to the top of that list with Terri Minsky (creator of Lizzie McGuire) behind the project. And Disney feels the same. Executive Vice President, Susette Hsiung, voices her opinion on what Utah has to offer, “our new production of Andi Mack will have the benefit of our years of collaboration with the Utah Film Commission and the wellspring of creative talent and locations the state offers.”
Andi Mack stars 12-year-old newcomer Peyton Elizabeth Lee. The family series centers around Andi as she’s about to celebrate her 13th birthday. Little does Andi know that her life will be turned upside down when her capricious older sister Bex returns home, making Andi question everything she’s ever known.
Not only will Andi Mack be a great series to add to our repertoire, but it will also have a huge economic impact on our state, hiring over 200 local cast and crew and spending an estimated $9,589,213 in Utah. Local producer Jeff Miller will be at the helm and they will be shooting in and around the Salt Lake County area. So, if you see the Disney production crew filming in your area this fall, give them a big hello from the Utah Film Commission!
