Utah’s own, Mitch Davis, has some exciting news for Utahns. His 2001 film, The Other Side of Heaven, a faith-based film exploring young love tested by an LDS mission in Tonga, is being released on iTunes in high-def. Born and raised in Utah, Mitch has taken his film career from BYU to L.A where he was hired as a creative executive at Disney. He’s been involved in films such as Dead Poet’s Society and Newsies. Starting in the screenwriting world, he made his way through the chain of command to director and producer as a way to have more creative control over his stories. His stories are uplifting tales of human spirit and connection. His first feature film, The Other side of Heaven, is a perfect example of this type of story. He says “in many ways it represents his life work” and is a “beautiful, uplifting film.” Starring Anne Hathaway (her first film role) and Christopher Gorham, this film captures the magic of young love and the power of faith. Most recently, Mitch has been filming The Stray in none other than his home state of Utah! It tells the story of a young father who takes his nine year old son, the family dog, and two of his son’s friends backpacking in the mountains of Colorado only for all five of them to be struck by lightning. Mitch isn’t the only one who’s been filming in Utah lately. Christopher Gorham (star of The Other Side of Heaven) has been back in Utah directing We Love you Sally Carmichael , the story of a writer who’s pseudonym doesn’t work as planned. They are both scheduled to premiere in 2017, so don’t miss them!
