Two New Productions Approved to Film in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (August 13, 2020) – Utah Film Commission today announced the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) Board approval of two new productions for state film incentives, generating an estimated economic impact of $2.1 million and creating over 150 local jobs.

Based on the true story of Jason Derek Brown, one of the FBI’s top ten fugitives, ‘American Murderer’ will begin shooting in October around Salt Lake County. The production is hiring approximately 120 cast & crew with an estimated spend of $2 million in state.

‘Grandpa’s Crazy?’ is a family feature directed by local filmmaker, K. Danor Gerald. This production was approved under the Community Film Incentive Program, supporting smaller, local projects. “Utah has the finest scenery, great locations, and highly qualified, talented, and skilled cast and crew,” said local producer, Dave Bresnahan. Filming entirely in Tooele, the film will hire 100 percent Utah cast and crew.

“Providing film incentives to both large and small productions is a great way to develop more opportunities for our local film industry,” Virginia Pearce, director of the Utah Film Commission, commented. “Film production also gives our local communities and businesses an immediate economic boost during a time when it’s needed most.”
