Four New Productions Approved to Film in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (January 10, 2020) – Utah Film Commission today announced the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) Board approval of four new productions for state film incentives, generating an estimated economic impact of approximately $9.7 million and creating over 275 local jobs.

A narrative series, ‘9 Years to Neptune’ co-directors Tyler McKellar and Greg Kiefer will feature talented puppeteers in Utah and is in collaboration with Utah-based Cosmic Pictures for BYU TV. Production will begin in May and is estimated to spend $4.6 million in state.

Other productions includeHaul Out the Holly’, produced by John Kelly (‘127 Hours’) which will begin shooting in March and is estimated to spend $2.5 million, as well as a $1.2 million untitled documentary series directed by Tyler Measom (‘Sons of Perdition’) and Jared Hess (‘Napoleon Dynamite’) which will be filming later in January.

Also approved is the third season of the popular CW series ‘The Outpost’, with production based in Springville, UT. The team will begin shooting in March and will spend an estimated $1.5 million in the state.

Virginia Pearce, director of the Utah Film Commission, commented: “These four projects showcase how Utah is a great fit for a wide variety of productions. Our goal has always been to encourage and develop local talent, as well as out-of-state productions and I’m thrilled to have a selection of both filming here this winter.”
