MOAB-“After Earth,” a big-budget science-fiction action movie starring Will Smith and his 13-year-old son Jaden, completed filming near Moab on June 6th and is now headed to post-production. Film executives and officials with the Moab Area Travel Council said the production added as much as $400,000 to the local economy.

Executive producer E. Bennett Walsh said that the film’s target release date is “exactly one year from June 7, 2013.” Walsh said the production staff and crew spent six weeks preparing in Moab, followed by five full days of shooting at multiple locations in Grand and San Juan counties.

(Los Angeles, CA) – Producer Hoot Maynard is pleased to announce the commencement of pre-production on the independent feature film GREEN SCARE.

Green Scare is the true story of the undercover, underage FBI informant who befriends and betrays three environmentalists in the fear drenched wave of 9/11. Green Scare explores the story of two failed idealists; Eric, who in 2006 was arrested on conspiracy charges as part of the FBI’s crack down on environmentalists known as “the green scare”, and the mysterious FBI informant known only as Anna, who seduced a trio of friends and helped orchestrate the web of conspiracy which ultimately secured their fates.

Green Scare LLC, a California Limited Liability Company, will commence principal photography in the Greater Salt Lake City area Fall 2012. Cast will mostly be local with the exception of several well-known actors out of Los Angeles. Crew will also consist of a majority of local hires. Producers Hoot Maynard and Mason Dwinell are leading the charge and the picture will be helmed by writer/director Brett Shumway.

HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

There were glimpses of Johnny Depp as Tonto, Armie Hammer as the masked cowboy, and plenty of visual stunners — trains going off the rails, a bullet shot through the air in slo-mo, quick cuts of faces, set to a rock-style soundtrack. The reaction was immediate: Fans in Hall H traded “awesomes” with each other. (Some online commenters, however, already are describing it looking “overblown.” That might not be a surprise for a $250 million movie from Gore Verbinski, the filmmaker behind Pirates of the Caribbean.)

HOLLYWOOD.COM

Disney delivered a surprise when Comic-Con attendees were treated to a sudden sneak peek at the footage from The Lone Ranger, and we caught every second of it.

The first look compiled footage from the movie that’s, amazingly, still in production. Set to a grand voiceover that muses on of a world where “time and space [is] under the mastery of man…

AIN’T IT COOL NEWS

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Wrapping up the Disney panel was a 2 ½ minute trailer/reel/fun thing for The Lone Ranger. This wasn’t announced and they didn’t even tell us what it was for, it just started rolling.

Floating over a desert we zoom into a tall mountain, through a crevasse and smack into the lightning on the road Bruckheimer Films Logo. This was about the time most of the audience was clued into what we were about to watch.

The narration went something like this: “From the time of Alexander the Great no man could travel faster than the horse who carried him. Not anymore. Imagine time and space under the mastery of man, a power that makes emperors and kings look like fools. Whoever controls this controls the future.”

Read the rest here.

The Lone Ranger is currently in production in Moab, Utah (and filmed in Monument Valley).
